Obituary of Jean Staffen

Jean Staffen lived a full long life, a life filled with loving and sharing. Days short of her ninety-sixth birthday, she passed peacefully on August 13, in London, Ontario Jean was the heart of her family. An only child from Norton on Tees, she immigrated to Canada with her new husband, Harold, at the end of World War II. They made a home in Dorchester, Ontario and populated it with kids, cats and dogs. She distained placidity, and the house was rambunctious and full of life. It was truly a home filled with love and Jean was immensely proud of her five children. Jean carried that pride through to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was, beyond question, the matriarch and gravitational centre of the Staffen family. Jean's life extended far beyond the home. Drawing on deep reserves of energy, she was extremely active in her church and led Explorers for many years. Religion was personal to Jean and she expressed it with great subtlety through her actions and the way she lived. Religion meant giving of oneself and she did that in great measure. Jean was highly intelligent and read widely. Always surrounded by books, she informed herself and could converse on all manner of things. She taught her children to think for themselves and to pursue education and then marveled at the success they all enjoyed. Clearly, that success was built on the foundation she prepared. Jean is survived by her husband, who loved and cherished her for 77 years, and by her children, who loved, treasured and respected her immensely. Cremation has taken place.
