Obituary of Mary Hanek

Mary Hanek (nee Gubesch)died peacefully on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 in London. Maria, commonly known as Mary, was predeceased by her much loved and missed husband Michael Hanek. She is survived by daughters Mary Ann Anderson (spouse Glenn) Hilda Kurcz (spouse Tom)and sons Walter Hanek (spouse Heather) and Robert Hanek; her seven grandchildren Ann, Michael, Tim, Matthew, Steven, Samantha and Katherine. She is predeceased by brothers Martin and Michael. Mary was born on September 1, 1935 in Kallesdorf, Transylvania. After fleeing to Austria during WW 2 with her parents and brothers they lived in Bad Hall until 1951. After emigrating to Canada, she met her husband in the Saxon community and married in 1959. She moved to Dorchester to the family farm and grew tobacco and raised her family. Mary's love of gardening and baking and dancing were some of her many interests. She was a lifetime member and past ladies' president of the German Saxonia Club in Aylmer and past member in the Siebenburger Landsmannschaft. Her no nonsense strong character and loving smile will sadly be missed by everyone. In the spirit of our mother's love for everything gardening, we ask you plant a flower or tree in her honour. Friends will be received at the Bieman Funeral Home, 3970 Hamilton Road, Dorchester (Thursday 5:30 - 8:00 p.m.)where the funeral service will be conduct on Friday morning, April 15 at 11:30 a.m. A procession to the graveside will immediately follow the service at Dorchester Union Cemetery.
