Peacefully at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, St. Thomas on Thursday, July 15, 2021.
Fern Gladys (Ward) Smith of Dorchester in her 93rd year.
Her heavenly journey will find her reunited with her beloved husband Charles Smith (1999) as well as her parents Edith and Art Ward and her sister Lila Bentley.
Her daughter Marie Veale and Glenn and her son Dale Smith and Alice and grandson Kyle Smith will all cherish so many wonderful memories.
Fern was born on a farm in Central Butte, Saskatchewan on September 5, 1928. After her school years, she worked in a hospital caring for many.
It is not surprising that after she came to Ontario, she continued to care for others at C.P.R.I. in London.
At a dance at Wonderland Gardens, Fern met Charlie and fell in love and they were married in June of 1952.
After working on two farms for others, Fern and Charlie and their two children moved to their own place in Derwent, the community Charlie was born. They made lifelong friends in Derwent.
Time came for Fern and Charlie to sell the farm and move to St. Thomas. Fern spent many hours caring for Charlie after his stroke.
Her apartment in Dorchester was her final home where, once again, made community her home.
All in all, Fern was a very caring, compassionate woman who enjoyed many life-long friendships everywhere she lived.
Fern would want you to remember to walk each day and enjoy everyone you meet along the way.
