Being the more senior staff in the Booking department at Woodstock Hospital, I tend to refer to the young people employed at WH as the kids. Derrick was one of those kids. He was kind and shared his time for others. A sweet young man with a deep voice and a beautiful big smile. He snickered at our silliness that he may have walked into on any particular day, and helped when we struggled with the labours of our combined responsibilities. I will so miss him answering my call into his department.
My heartfelt sympathy at this time of pain and sorrow to all of Derrick's loved ones.

Our hearts just ache for Derrick's family and all that loved him at this dark time. Derrick was the best friend of our son for 23 years and we always enjoyed having him visit. He was a loyal friend, and from a young boy possessed wonderful manners, was a great conversationalist, even to the parents. His attributes could fill this page. Of course he grew up to be an upstanding successful young man, and a loving father. We loved hearing about the boys and know Derrick will live on through them.

Dear Kevin and Gail. We are so sad to hear of your loss. Our son Paul D’Andrea served on the TCFD with Derrick, and I know he thought the world of your son. We’ve lost our daughter Kristina and son Paul. We know there are no words that help through this pain, life just becomes so different. Derrick came to Paul’s funeral and more than anything we’d love to be there for you and your family. Covid has limited everything we took for granted. I had the privilege to have worked with Derrick and mentor him in his student days at VH back in 2008. From these early x-ray days, Derrick had great energy to learn more and build his skills..which he did over the years to become a strong technologist.

I am so heartbroken for the sudden loss of Derrick. My sincere condolences to his family and all that were close to him. My heart breaks for his boys that he loved so dearly.
I worked closely with Derrick for the past 9 years since he started at Woodstock Hospital. He quickly became somebody that I considered a friend. We found similar interests and had a friendship outside of work as well.
I always appreciated that I could depend on Derrick for support or to lend an ear when I was having a rough time. He was somebody I could confide in with my feelings and he often did the same. I will miss his energy and the passion he had for both his job and his interests. He was an insightful, thoughtful person and he will be greatly missed.
Love and strength go out to all those who are grieving this sudden loss.

I would like to express my deepest sympathies to Derrick's family and close friends. I had the chance to get to know Derrick over the last 4.5 years while working alongside him. Derrick was so full of life and love, especially when it came to his three boys, who were his pride and joy. Derrick talked about his sons every chance that he got.
