Obituary of Gregory James Pottruff

Please share a memory of Gregory to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with true heartbreak that our family announces the passing of Gregory James Pottruff (Eggy), 53, of Dorchester, Ontario. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on June 24, 2020. Greg will be deeply missed by his loving wife Kim and sons Eric and Evan. His mother Penny Costley, predeceased by his father James Pottruff and step father Jim Costley. Leaving behind sister Sarah (Saverio), Judy (Gary), Susan (Steve) and brother Mark (Patti). Father in law Phil Mowat, predeceased by mother in law Joy and missed by sisters in law Lindsay and Lauren. Many loving nieces and nephews Brandon, Ashley and Samantha, Jessica, Jennifer, Amanda and Paul. Greg was born in Burlington, Ontario to Jim and Penny Pottruff on May 29, 1967. Brought home to big sister Sarah. After losing their dad, James Pottruff, to cancer when Greg was only 6, a new family was formed in 1979 with Penny's marriage to Jim Costley also of Burlington. A new brother Mark and two sisters Sue and Judy were added and wonderful memories growing up together followed. Greg graduated from M.M. Robinson High School where many life long friendships were forged and remain to this day. Greg travelled Europe after high school making friends and living life to the fullest. He graduated from Sheridan College, Oakville in 1988 from the Theatre Tech program and Fanshawe College in 1992 from the Music Industry Arts program. Greg met the love of his life Kim at, of course, a concert where many of us were present as well. One of the best "day we met" stories ever. We still can't believe she gave him a second date. It was meant to be. They married in 1993 and soon after had two much loved sons Eric and Evan. Greg was very much a family man and his love for his family was ever present and one of his best qualities. It is interest to point out that Greg and Kim have been together for 30 years. Music was always in Greg's veins, in his soul and something that gave him great pleasure. His love for making music, watching music and sharing music is something we will always have wonderful memories of. That and 40 Creek Whiskey. Greg has left us all with our own personal sound track of music to remember him by. Strong long lasting friends were one of Greg's most cherished gifts. And he was never more happy than when playing guitar around a camp fire with friends and family. Today we celebrate Greg's far too short life. We hold up Kim, Eric and Evan in our thoughts and prayers. He has left an egg size hole in all of us. Cheers! Until we meet again. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, a celebration of life for Greg will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions of MusiCounts to give kids the gift of music along with his good friend, Mike Taylor's legacy, would be appreciated by his family. info@musicounts.ca - (416)-485-3135 - Musicounts, 219 Dufferin Avenue, Suite 211C, Toronto, ON M6K 3J1 Online condolences may be made at www.biemanfuneralhome.com (Bieman Funeral Home, 3970 Hamilton Road, Dorchester, ON N0L 1G2 - (519)-268-7672 - in charge of arrangements)
