Obituary of Edwin Robert Dow

Edwin Robert (Ted) Dow October 18th, 1931 – February 10th, 2026 Passed away peacefully in his 95th year. Much-loved husband of Barbara (nee Huntley), his wife of sixty-six years. Proud father of Douglas (Anita) of London, Tracy Stanton (Pete) of Ingersoll and Sherry Avison (Kelly) of Toronto. Pre-deceased by his infant daughter Jennifer (1967), his parents Vernon (Vic) Dow (1969) and Mae Edith Dow (1971), and his sister, Phyllis (“Toots”) Christiani (1989). Beloved “Grandad” to Lauren Dube (Jonathan), Brittany Stanton (Ben), Nick and Chloe Avison. Great-grandfather to Claire and Theo. Ted was an employee of the Toronto-Dominion Bank for thirty-six years, retiring in 1987. During his career, Ted worked at branches in London, Toronto, Wallaceburg, Stratford, Lasalle, Chatham, Ottawa, Petawawa, and Dorchester. After retirement, Ted and Barb were able to devote much of their time to travel, either on a cruise, a trip to Europe, or in their camper van. Ted was a longtime member of the Dorchester Optimist Club, and an enthusiastic supporter of local sports. Ted will be remembered as a loving family man, an enthusiastic handyman, a steadfast friend to many, and a pillar of his community. He gave freely of his wealth of experience and knowledge, was always ready to help out, and was quick with a joke or quip. He will be greatly missed. The family’s profound thanks go to the staff of Kensington Village, who gave him care and comfort in his final years. In accordance with Ted’s wishes, cremation has already taken place. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 21st, 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 4091 Catherine Street, Dorchester. A reception will follow in the church hall. For those who may wish to attend, inurnment will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Dorchester Union Cemetery Columbarium.
