Alex “Butch” Hoxar of Dorchester passed peacefully at Parkwood Institute surrounded by family and friends on Monday, January 19th, 2026 in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Jean Hoxar (nee Wilson) for 55 years. Dear father of Jeff Hoxar (wife Connie) of Lucan, Lisa Hoxar (husband Mike) and Brad Hoxar (partner Karen of London) all of Dorchester. Loving grandfather of Michelle Gordon (husband Darryl), Josh Buchanan, Andria Gover (husband Kyle), Alexis Hoard (nee Hoxar) (husband Tanner), Brooke Deane (nee Hoxar-Moore) (husband Patrick), Brett Lammers (partner Kylie), Ethan Hoxar, Timothy Wallace and Mary-Jane Wallace. Fondly remembered by his great grandchildren. Predeceased by mother, Emily McLachlin, and father, Alex Hoxar. Predeceased by uncles, John Gallagher (late wife Ruth), Samuel Gallagher (wife Agnes), and Gordon Gallagher (wife Elaine/Elaine’s current partner, Gordon), and aunts, Jean Lindsay (late husband Kenneth) and Margaret Weiss (late husband Elmer). Brother-in-law of Gladys McVittie (late husband Harvey), Lucy Wolfe (husband Wally), Margaret Bennett (late husband Earl) and Caroline Boyse (husband Ron). Predeceased by brothers-in-law Donald Wilson (late wife Florence) and Jack Wilson (late wife Eunice), and by sisters-in-law Pearl Harkes (Bill) and Dorothy Caldwell (late husband Jack and partner Cliff). Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Butch was an avid farmer, sports fan (Go Leafs! Go Jays!), dessert connoisseur (hello brownies and lemon meringue pie!), harness racing enthusiast and storyteller who will be dearly missed by friends, family and the community of Dorchester. Thank you to Gerry and Cindy Wilson, Caroline Boyse, slot partner Lucy Wolfe, and Sue Campbell for all of their love and support. Thank you also to Butch’s wonderful neighbours, Steve, Amanda, Ryan and Ava, for looking out for Butch and helping him throughout the years. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contribution may be made to the Dorchester United Church, 4100 Catherine Street, Dorchester, ON N0L 1G0 or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
