Please share a memory of Ralph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ralph “Crazy Horse” Wilkins, aged 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, May 19, 2025, surrounded by family, friends, and his beloved Boston Terrier, Baxter. Born on November 18, 1938, in Bothwell, Ontario, to Leonard Sr. and Annie Wilkins, Ralph was the youngest of seven boys and one of twelve siblings. He is survived by his two younger sisters, Vivian and Sylvia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ralph was predeceased by his devoted wife of 55 years, Carol, who passed away on the same holiday Monday in 2021. He was a loving father to his daughters, Kristin and Cheri, and a proud grandfather to his grandsons, Cole, Andrew, and Joshua. Ralph lived a vibrant life shaped by his passions. Raised in Bothwell, Ontario, he developed an enduring love for fast cars and drag racing. Over decades, he honed his mechanical expertise, transforming Mustangs into competitive drag cars and racing them across Ontario and the United States. His 1969 Mercury Cyclone earned him numerous titles, cementing his reputation as a pioneer and a wealth of knowledge in the racing community. A devoted Ford enthusiast, Ralph’s legacy in the sport is cherished by many. Ralph built a successful career as a truck driver, retiring in 2004. In retirement, he remained active in racing as an owner and mechanic, entrusting the driving to his close friend Rick Warwick as he slowed with age. In his final years, Ralph dedicated himself to restoring his cherished 1965 Ford Falcon, a project left unfinished but reflective of his lifelong passion. Through his daughter Kristin, grandson Cole, and friend Rick, Ralph’s enthusiasm for cars and his contributions to racing will endure. Ralph’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, inspired by his dedication to family, friends, and the pursuit of speed. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment service will be conducted at the Dorchester Union Cemetery Columbarium on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. A Celebration of Ralph's life will be announced at a later date. It was Ralph’s preference that any donations made in his memory be given to the Humane Society or any local pet shelter, as he was an avid dog lover.
